Concepts

The following visuals are helpful for any age. I always prefer the opportunity to look at a chart, graph, or visual representation of a concept - it makes it clearer and more salient.

It may help to ask your child, “What’s the size of this problem?”

It may help to categorize thoughts and behaviors into 3 categories. TOP, MIDDLE, and BOTTOM drawer.  The TOP drawer is for thoughts that are always OK to say, the MIDDLE must be censored depending on the setting, time, and person.  The BOTTOM drawer behaviors or thoughts should never happen unless you are alone!

Sometimes we feel we have more control over things than we really do. This visual puts things into perspective.
